diesel th400 behind my 305?

Should. 6.2's use the chevy bellhousing (not the BOP). You will have to connect the vacume-downshift line.

It will bolt right to the motor...no problem. The diesel torque convertor will have a lower stall speed, but I'm not sure how much.

Isn't the 400 a different length than the 350? Will it bolt to your transfer case?

The 400 and 350 output shafts are different spline (30something vs. 27). Also, the 350 is longer. There are several adapters on the market to facilitate the changeover. You may have to change the output shaft on the 400 to connect to the x-fer case (or possibly the input on the x-fer).

I've been looking at the options to put a 400 on my 'Burban since the 700 is broken.

Actually, the powerglide is about 5 inches shorter than the TH350. And almost all the manual trannys are shorter, too.
