I'm swapping an Isuzu 4BD1T into my '86 K-5 blazer that originally had a FI gas engine. The Tranny was rebuilt about 3kmi ago so it should be in good shape, but I know I'll need to switch to a diesel-friendly torque converter. Do you guys have any recommendations for me? The 4BD1T is a 3.9 liter turbo inline 4 cylinder very similar to the 4bt cummins.

Also; Since I'm ditching the factory ECU, will I lose my converter lockup function? If so, what will I need to do to get that to function again? Thanks

Look at Bowtie Overdrives or TCI for lock-up kits. You should find out the optimum RPM for your engine to pick the best TC I think.

1600 - 1800 RPM is the "sweet spot" and it has a 3,000 rpm redline. I was told that I should get a 2,000 RMP comverter but that doesnt sound right. Then I asked a tranny tech guy and he suggested a full size 1200 rpm converter. I'm just confused now!

The torque converter is just fine but swap out the govener for a diesel one . That will shifts at low RPM's . I have a gas tranny behind my 6.2 and works just fine .
