so my truck has revently started dieseling, it has gotten progressively worse.:( at first it was just like a pshh sound and not it continues to run and i have to turn the key to run, itll start, and then shut it off. Then it MIGHT turn off. ITs getting pretty damn annoying and embaressing...:haha: im kinda concerned about what it could be.

carb 350, edelbrock 1406 carb, performer intake, msd 6a box. HELP!!!!!!

my only thoughts are too far advanced timing, or a loose ground? hopefully? maybe lol

Could also be to lean. Rich-en (turn) the air fuel screw a tad.
Bad gas, low octane will do it too.

Wrong spark plugs, wrong gap, worn spark plugs are other possibilities.

wrong plugs? seriously!? how can i tell whrether or not theyre the wrong ones? lol i though it didnt matter. lol

Ethanol blend gasoline can sometimes do this in a carbureted engine. Are you running straight regular, E10, E85?

Until you get the actual cause diagnosed, you can shut it off in gear to avoid the embarassment of chugkachugchug.

The most common cause is idleing to high, timming to far advanced or running to hot. Although the other answeres are of course possible too.

um i ran 85 octane from 7-11 :D idk what e10 means, yesterday i put about 20 gallons of 85 in the truck and added a bottle of octane booster and carbeurator cleaner. Im gonnna retartd my timing slightly today. i think that it might be idleing too high, bc i turned it up after it almost stalled at a light...:doah:

i had an 85 that dieseled after it got good and warm.

seafoamed it and it never did it again to my knowledge. ran a lot smoother and quieter tooo

when you say seafoamed it did you put it in the tank right? i havent been able to find htis stuff, where did you get it?

i sucked about half of it through the brake booster vacuum line(first slowly, then at around half a can i tipped it enough to stall the motor.) then i poured the rest in the tank. it'll smoke like hell, but thats supposed to be all the bad stuff gettin blasted out.

both o'reilly and autozone carry it here.

It might be a good idea to also check your vaccum hoses if you have the butt load of vaccum hoses to operate the smog goodies, as I do (hopefully not for much longer :D). Almost every 2 -3 years, I get a dam leak somewhere and the motor starts to diesel.

That's a great suggestion for a pretty cheap and easy project (replacing all the old-looking vacuum hoses) for an engine that has a bunch of miles on it (and its vacuum hoses). You can't always see those teeny hose cracks that easily, even in the best of light. A 50 foot roll of good vacuum hose is only about 20 bucks.

an easy way to check for vac leaks is to spray carb cleaner on the fittings and lines. If the idle changes, you have a leak. Just be sure the overspray does not get in the carb or else you will get false readings.

actually i get a pshhing sound after i shut off hte motor...that is probaly a leak.:doah: im retarted well, ive got 3 cans of carb cleaner and im GOING to find the leak or whatever the hell problem this is TODAY/ :D eh hopefully

For me it is usually carbon deposits or to high of an idle speed.

I know what you mean about being embarased. I went to the bank last weekend and I pulled up to the front door and I turned the key off and made it to the door before the f***er finally shut down. :doah: Two people in the parking lot were looking at my Blazer like WTF is up with that piece. I just wanted to yell out "That ain't mine!"

:haha: i hate gettin embarassed like that. the worst ive done was a blown front axle shaft on the way home from wheelin.even with teh hub unlocked, it was binding and not allowing the wheel to rotate backwords. i had to really get on it just to back out of the parking space:haha:
