diff cleaning

I have a question on how to best clean out a rear diff with the gears and locker still in it. I have a 14bolt with a detroit (it is out from under the truck) and I would like to pop off the cover and clean it out, any ideas??? If it helps I don't mind sliding the axles out. Thanks for any help.

Pop the diff cover off, spray in foaming engine cleaner, clean that up, then use brake cleaner to displace anything left over. The brake cleaner will displace any chemicals left over, then evaporate over time.

i usually use brakecleaner and then let sit to dry for a few hours before i put the cover back on and refill

thanks for the info. so i don't have to worry about any seals being hurt by the brake cleaner? i can just tilt the housing back at an angle and spray the cleaner all up in it? if the shafts are out any good ideas on cleaning in the tubes? is there any thing i should avoid when cleaning inside an axle??

brake cleaner evaporates so fast it shouldn't be a problem at all. it's what i use in there. don't forget to scoop out the stuff that settles at the bottom of the pumpkin. if there are metal shavings that's where they'll be. my trucks never have any in there, but i think a very small amount is acceptable. very small.
