Difference in a '90 and'91 Suburban?

Just to add my 2cents..still on the orig 350 in my '88 w/o any sort of rebuild or major work and runs just fine nor burns or leaks any oil. NOW.. the 700r4 is a diffrent story, has been rebuilt 3 times and and the 208 has been rebuilt once. Oh yea, I have 394k on the clock. I tribute this to all the documented and regular maint my father-in-law did to it since it was new.
Now that is impressive!

I'd be a little skeptical of believing that it doesn't at LEAST smoke and use a bit of oil after 200k miles. It was a common problem on about all of that engine design that the valve seals dried up and leaked. Heck I've seen them leaking and smoking at 90k miles.

But nice that you're getting some mileage out of the engine. I know I could have gone a lot longer with mine if I had just replaced the head gasket. It still ran and drove good, other than the smoking at start-up and after long idles. It was definitely a little weak with power, but never gave any real major problems until the gasket started leaking. I even drove it a few months with that gasket leaking, it just wasn't bad enough to cause major issues until the leak got worse, finally filled the cylinder with water and stopped turning over one day when I tried to start it.

After that, well, high mileage, smokey valves,, I just opted to have it completely gone through.

My 89 model has 71,000 miles, has the start up smoke and extended idle smoke issues as well. I thought that was standard on the vehicles...

Small block Chevrolets leak at the valve seal. That is just kind of standard.
