different torque converters? update

I just got a used 700r4 from someone on here, and i cant seem to get my old tc in this tranny? I can tell when its all way in, it is at the point where it looks like it is in but it still has to go one more knoch. Are there different splined tc for 700r4? I spent over a hour trying to get this one in and i cant get it!!!

update, ok after looking at the tc there are 3 places where one spline is missing, if that makes sence, so im guess then that my tc is an older one with only 27 splines right?

82 83 and early 84 700r4 are 27 spline input, the late 84 and on are 30 spline.

are you sure its a 700r4 converter?
is it in all the way and you think its not?
the bolt pads should sit behind the face of the bellhousing about 1" or so.
 
yeah it the tc off my old 700r4, and where the bolts should go isnt a 1 back yet
 
first off what happened to the old tranny? second if it burnt up or blew up then that is bad. convertors are the big colecter of system crap. if you put in a used one you stand a big chance of running all that stuff in a good tranny and trashing it. also dont forget to flush the cooler lines and cooler.


just some words of advice. dont take this the wrong way. seen it happen and dont want it to happen to you.
 
haha well the old tranny and converter i bought it from someone on here too, put it in and it never shifted right, took it in the shop and they said the govenor on it was f ed. The fuild that i put in stayed pretty clean This is the same converter that iam using??? will this still mess it up???

why didn't you just change/repair the governor?
 
well yeah since the old one i plan on selling to a buddy and this one i got for almost nothing, after this goes in i plan on selling the truck
