Differential cover question, what would you do?

I like shiny things too. Hey the chrome covers are only like 20 bucks each. Just get the gaskets and use a little ultra black rtv on each side and they won't leak. Just puttin in my 2 cents.

I like that it looks nice and clean kinda what im goin for, and i understand the whole thing about guys who know better dont put too much stock into the cheap chrome gear. I just want somethin that will work for me. thanks for the pics man appreciate that.

As always doc thanks for the heads up, i just kept hearing everyone say "4:56" gears would be my recomondation. So your sayin I need to buy 4:56:1 gear? im gonna pick up the stuff next week from ccor so i gotta make sure i get the right parts.

As mentioned, gears are invariably whatever ratio:1, so it gets shortened to "4.56" instead of "4.56:1". It's not like you can get 4.56:2 or 4.56-to-anything else, so don't worry about it -- tell your vendor you want four fifty six gears and you'll get the right thing.

It's just a pet peeve of mine when I seem them called i.e. 4:56, cuz that's just mathematically wrong; this irks me almost as much as people calling them "gear rations." That's what you FEED to your gears, people! :haha: [I donno, I feed mine gear oil, but maybe some people give their gears MRE's or something?]

And chrome might have a place on a truck with a tasteful amount of chrome. In my case, my taste says I can have chrome lights on my lightbar, and blingy billet shifter knobs for my t-case ... otherwise, umm, I can't think of anything shiny on the truck. But yeah, that is a matter of personal taste :deal:

I like the look of a freshly painted, stock, diff cover. Clean looking and if the paint is glossy it looks very classy.

i really like the way my stock covers came out. i did this over a year ago and it still looks pretty good. just a scrub with the brush at the car wash and it looks like new.

I saw someone power-coat a factory cover with a silver color and it looked almost chrome. I wouldn't mess with a 10-bolt rear though. I couldn't keep a 12 bolt much less a 10 bolt. Surprisingly, my Dana 44 in the front have been holding up.
The front factory cover is usually made of thicker material than the rear. It is because people have a tendency to run into things in the front than rear.
If you are dead set with your puny axles, get an aftermarket plated cover for the front and move the front factory cover to the rear after you power coated the parts in silver. As covers go, putting a thin chrome cover on the front is downgrade.

Ryoken, Who makes that cover, its bad ass

as mentioned, it's Kert's creation...

I can't imagine a sicker looking or more bulletproof cover.. fockers are heavy!

I'm gonna do mine so it looks like it has a rockring bolted to it.. paint the whole thing black, then come in and paint the outside lip and razors hugger orange.. thats my secondary color for the suspension, drivetrain, yada, yada....

ya I know what ya mean about things that irk ya ill try to keep the numbers straight in the future for my sake! as for the covers, well im thinkin ill hold off on the diff coves was thinkin about the polished aluminum but hey i want people to like my truck as much as i do so im gonna keep the stock ones for now. dont fix what aint broke right!

I love it man I agree with the whole chrome downgrade thing cause i didnt realize how thin they were, but im totally diggin your setup im gonna shoot kert a message to see if hes got any ideas for me!

How do you power coat stuff? can anyone do it from stuff at their local parts store? I like how clean your setup is and would love the same look.

I had a question dremu do you know if that cover will fit a 10b rear? I love it so much i ordered one but i want one for the back too any ideas? I talked to kert and he said he doesnt currently make one. how different is the fit?
