Differential questions

Gov lock is not "posi", or "limited slip". It's a locker, when it locks up, it is locked. It's just not a good locker...
It's not the original differential, so I'm not sure if it's a gov-lock. Is what I'm describing sound like a gov-lock? My cousin blew up the differential right before I bought it and had a shop install a new one. He said it was posi.

It behaves like a Gov-lock. A posi, or limited slip diff will turn both tires the same direction on a jackstands, and you'd be hard pressed to hold one back.

Correct, this turns both wheels the same direction. It was just idling with a little drag on the brakes so it wasn't too hard to grab it using a rag.

A clutch type posi you wouldn't have been able to stop one tire at all with it running like it was on jack-stands. A Gov-Lock requires a difference in speed from one side to the other before it locks up, which is exactly what you described.

Got it, thanks!

there are clutches in the G80 gov locker though, and when those wear out, it will behave like an open diff due to clutch discs slippage. I had it happen in my burb.

This thing locked up hard. Kind of interesting, when I put it into 4 low, with the low wheel speed and brake drag, I could see and hear the rearend alternate lock up side to side about every ten seconds or so.
