I looked on my dads 2001 and my 97 compairing the front suspention. I cant see any visual differnces so I assume they must be only slightly differnt in some of the measurments? Does anyone know how differnt they are?

I know as far as the lifts go the 00-06 you get a differnt knucle with a taller upper ball joint thus eliminating the drop brakets for the upper a-arm. Can this be used on my older 97 with some modifications?

also I couldnt realy get to the rear frame area on my dads to compair if a custom bumper from say fab fours would fit the older truck.

This info is actualy for a friend of mine, if it was me it would be SAS questions and I would have one of our vendors such, as kert, build me a back bumper. (damnit now I got ideas in my head)

HA HA perhaps I should compair them side by side rather than a day apart lol. It would probably help if I didnt despise the IFS lifts, and actually consitered a lift for my 97 myself. Both IFS GM's with a lift, that I have owned, have been complete headaches though. I had a 88 1/2 ton with a 6" rough country and a 90 LD2500 with a 6" tough country both where terrible. The sub frames just would not stay tight witch screwed the alignment up every 3 months.

Another friend told me that his 98 tahoe had a lift (didnt know what brand) but he said he is positive it had differnt knuckles and the upper a-arms where in their original location. Unfourtunatly he traded it in on a newer silverado, so I cant look at it.

I have been told lift designs on the 88-99 IFS GMs has changed for the better, and that I should give them another look. But im stubborn, I have my 97 lifted with superlift upper a-arms and ford keyways. I got 4.5" of lift measured at the front bumper. So far, aside from having wrong offset on the wheels, I havent had any problems, it seams to be holding the alignment.

Anyway I told the first friend he needed to do some research on the lift. As far as rear bumpers Im sure they can be modified.

Look at Tuff Country's current lifts for those trucks. They really redesigned them a few years ago and they pretty much set the standards now. 1 piece subframes and extended knuckles. Only way I'd lift an IFS truck...if I had lost my mind and decided to do that again...

The trucks are very similar across the generations but they were changed in just about every dimension and shape...some very subtly but nothing bolts up in the same place on another generation.

I have also wondered if anything could be interchanged from the 2 generations of IFS. I would love to be able to swap the '01-up HD front brakes to my 97.
