Hey yall, quick question. I think I need to replace my front manual locking hubs on my blazer, reason is because you can grab onto the end of the hub where the selector (locked/free) is and pull on it and it will slide back and forth, like in and out from the axle. There's not a whole ton of movement but it's a good 1/4-1/2 inch, and they won't tighten up... So I'm geussing they need replaced? I found warn hubs for 100 bucks at 4 wheel parts. How hard are they to replace, and how do you go about doing it. I tried looking it up on here but couldn't find an answer. I have mechanical ability I've just never done hubs before. Thanks yall.

Sounds like there might be something installed wrong on the hub guts, facing the wrong way,or the spring isn't in the correct place,etc--maybe see if you can find an exploded view of one and see that everything is assembled correctly..

The Warn hubs are OK I guess, but I like the Spicer/Dana originals better in a way..they never gave me much grief..

Takes about ten minutes, easy peasy. You'll need an allen wrench (hex key, whatever you call them) the size of the six bolts on the outside, think it's 1/8" but don't quote me. You'll also probably need snap ring pliers, and a pick is really handy (like a dental pick, the parts stores sell them.) A small flathead will do in a pinch, to chase out the big honkin' ring inside the wheel hub.

The Warn Premiums are fine hubs. Don't grease them, though, or they gum up (ask me how I know :doah: )

If the centers pull that much, yeah, something is wrong. It's easy enough to pull them off and see if the springs are shot or what -- they're pretty simple devices. I'd say it's worth a C-note to take them off, spray them in brake cleaner, and see if they work better afterwards.
