Not sure what I want to do to the truck first: exhaust, lift, really anything is game. It's a 90 and bone stock, save for the 33" tires and 2" dual exhaust. I'm coming back to the states for my two weeks leave and I want to wrench on the truck when I'm home. I've got about $1200 to play with just not sure where to start. The truck is going to be a dd, and I want to have it as street friendly as possible(I want to wheel it quite a bit,but it will see alot of highway), and i'll have about 3500 into it after the deployment is done in parts. Just not sure what to do with the first check into it. What would you guys do first in my shoes. Frame and body have a little over 200k motor and tranny are around 45k every accessory on the motor is new.

if its going to be mostly a DD then you dont need to play with shift kits, regearing dif's,doublers and all that other awesome but expensive/time consuming stuff.

I would just focus on flex and body armor. Personally id throw a 4'' lift on it, dual batterys beef up the front and rear bumpers to meet your needs. Gas tank guard, Polyeurathane bushings if needed. Maybe some cool lights in the front bumper if you wheel at night. The 4'' lift springs alone will increase your capabilitys quite a bit offroad while still keeping a reasonable center of gravity. Warn standard manual locking hubs are a great upgrade to if you got any cash left over.

dont forget to post up the before and after pics :)

the route i would take..... (slipping into flame suit)...

you said the engines only got 45k on it, so id leave that alone for the time being.

hit up the junkyard, find some 52in rear springs, and put them up front in your rig. and do a home made shackle flip for a 4in lift in the rear. invest in a quality set of shock absorbers. this should keep it civil on the road so long as youre not trying to drive it like a porsche. the 52's will give great flex for wheeling, but some worry that they allow too much body roll for driving on the street.

A set of 35in tires will take a big chunk out of that 1200 bucks. wih the 4in lift and 35's youll have vastly improoved offroading ability with the rig, and IMHO it just looks right on these trucks.

Now, depending on what kind of equipment you have in the truck, Id use the remaining cash to get offroading gear. a good set of tow straps, possibly a heavy duty come along, shovel, tree saver, etc. etc.

if youve already got all this gear, then of course the front bumper is something you NEED to invest in because you dont have one.

52's in the front won't work with the stock steering and they're not super street friendly.

Call up ORD and order a 4" lift kit. - Rear shackle flip and new 4" front springs, shocks and brake lines. Some new exhaust and run it.... :D

Any plans on fixing the rockers? Kinda boring but now would be a good time to have some body work done and have that stuff nice and fixed waiting for you when you got home.

Also, not to be a spoil sport, but as I'm currently fighting the little demons lately, fix the little stuff. I'm putting off a lot of the "big stuff" until I get the little stuff done. I figure why spend money on bigger tires and suspension work if I'm still trying to figure out how to fix one of the rear seatbelts, wondering what that odd rattle is, hating my seat covers, need working AC, and all the other odd little issues that bother me about it?

X2 on what ezoliver said. Also I suggest you take the "Squirrel Catcher" front bumper you removed and shave/cut 3-4" off the bottom for a better approach angle, possibly add some D-ring attach points and put it back on.

I'm leaning toward the Rough country 4" right now since it comes with just about everything. I'm thinking ORD shackle flip for the rear. I'm thinking about doubling the rockers up with a square steel rocker and a flared rockslider from Kert. And I'm talking back and forth with Kert right now about his 12k winch bumper. Since I'm leaving the 33's for awhile I'm going to make sure I got about all the recovery equipment that I can find. But I'm leaning heavy towards the exhaust and the 4". Just for when I'm on R&R the rest will come later.

Eh, the Rough Country stuff has a reputation for being stiff. Some people swear by it though.
I'm going Tuff Country if I ever convince myself to lift it.

Well I've got an update. Finally getting a plan in my head of what I want to do. Going with the 6" Rough Country lift with blocks (for now going to do a shackle flip later on). And a tire I know is great for dual purpose (Military 37 12.50 16.5 Goodyears). I'm really starting to get the "might as well" bug with my new truck. http://www.trailworthyfab.com/189-8-Bolt-Hummer-Wheel-Special.html This is probably the best deal on wheels and tires that I have found. I am definately going with these.
