So, a few months ago, one of my dad's friends gave me a K15 that I was planning on boat siding, shortening, and otherwise building up. Well, I have not been able to get anything done on it due to weather, family, and other goings on.

Well, the same friend of my dad just locked up the motor in his 88 S-10 blazer. Dad gave him an old blazer we had to drive and I guess I got the 88 by default.

Now I'm wondering what should I do. The K15 is pretty rotten. A friend was enticing me today with tales of topless, family caged S-10 on some 36's. Now I'm torn. I'd like to have the full size rig, but on the other hand, the blazer is in much better shape and I've not really got anything done or invested in the K15 I can't use on the S-10.

Ideas, suggestions?

If you were going to do the whole boatsiding thing you must have some fab skills, right? Why don't you take the cab of the s-10 and but it on the K frame and running gear? I have seen pics of s-10's on fullsize frames etc and if done right it could be a sweet setup. Food for thought anyways.

I did think about that, but this is an 2dr S10 Blazer. after cutting down my K15 frame, the rear wheels would be where the cab ends on the truck now, and the frame is low and flat there. I'd have about 8" of lift in the rear just trying to get the wheels set right.

Build a rock crawler out of the S10. If the other truck is rotten, youll have more headaches than just drivetrain. Personally, I think you should build a pre runner and do those stadium truck races. :D

HAH. If I was going to build one of those, I'd leave the IFS under the S-10 and run some 33's with a 350 in front of the 700R4.

Here's a few pics of the GMC.

If you were going to boatside and shorten the K15 then why are you hung up on wanting a full size? Put the drivetrain from the K15 into the S10 and make a S15 blazer.

The thing that keeps me thinking about doing the K15 the most is the fact that if I did move it's driveline to the S10, I'm not sure I could get it inspected here in VA. I want to be able to drive what ever I build where ever I go. I don't have a truck to pull it on a trailer or flat tow it with.

i'd do the fullsize. when you boat side it you will be eliminating quite a bit of the cancer so not much more to deal with. or build both:D

That was the thought. Actually that was the reason to boat side it, to eliminate the cancer but not dump loads of $$ into body work on a vehicle that will get mauled by rocks anyway.

I think I'll pickup the blazer also, just to have on hand. Maybe start small and make a wheeler for my g/f with it. I've got a spare D30 laying around and 8.8's are cheap. Swap those in for her on some 31's to begin with and let her learn to drive, then build as she gets more competent.
