On my big block I took the oil adaptor out (2 screws) and removed the bypass valve and drilled and tapped it and put a pipe plug in there, then reinstall. Now ALL of the oil is forced through the filter. Not sure if that is an option on your engine or not. Only downfall is if the filter ever get's plugged you will lose oil pressure. So use good filters (delco is good) and change it often.
