I may have a little $$ coming my way. Thinking about a crew cab.
Need a tow rig for when I get my suburban done.
Been thinking about a Duramax. So school me on them. I want to avoid the def versions, but if they're worth the hassle I'll deal with it.
As always, thanks in advance!!

Loved my 19 lbz. Last version before DEF. EX decided it need to meet my boat, RV and a few oak trees on my way to file divorce the next day. Knew I shouldn’t have stayed. HaHa. I like to think I may be smarter now, but I have my doubts.

I didn’t know they made the lbz in ‘19 lol

2010 was last year before def. Somewhere around ‘06 ‘07 was when emissions crap started with dpf and regens. I would say avoid all emissions crap or delete it if you’re in a non emissions area. If you get an ‘11 or newer, I would also cp3 swap it…

Had to look up the cp3 swap. Expensive!
Think I'll stick with '10 and older...

I got a 07 classic, aka old body style mid year 07 it changed,it came with a cat , egr and egr cooler from the factory.
Other than putting head gaskets at 150 k it’s been a great truck. Almost 200 k on it now.

Dammit. First day off in a few weeks. May have started adult beverages instead of breakfast. HaHa. 2007 LBZ. Predator tuner and transgo kit in trans. Loved that truck.

I now drive a 2019 duramax work truck. Of the 3 previous this one has been the most problematic.

My 06 LLY (basically an LBZ engine without the tune added, as it wasnt EPA approved yet) is pretty awesome IMO. I have 273xxx on mine. All stock except for cat removal and 4” exhaust added. I haven't towed over the Rockies with a big gasser, but I can say its a world of difference between a 6.0 gasser and the Duramax. Set the cruise and fuggetaboutit.
The 06-early 07’s are bringing big prices for their simplicity and lack of later emissions equipment.
Here is a good comparison of the different years and potential issues with each.

I have 2. My '01 is a 2500HD crew cab short bed 4x4. Has the LB7 engine. Have 434,000 miles on it. No emissions. Known for injector issues.

Just picked up an '08 3500HD crew cab long bed dually 4x4. Has the LMM. Has 247,000 miles on it. First year of the emissions, but no DEF.

My understanding is that 2007.5 was when they started the emissions with the LMM. It used a 9th injector in the exhaust to use diesel to burn off the accumulation(regen) in the DPF (diesel particulate filter). The next gen (LML, I believe) had the DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) to clean the DPF.

From my dealer experience I recommend to avoid the emissions crap.

The 2005 to 2007 classic would be my target. The problem is that’s every one else’s target too and the prices are inflated.

One of our owners lake buddies picked up this gem. It was over 100k and rough around the edges and he still paid $25k for it.

We did a lot to the truck to clean it up and de-ugly it (17” rockstar dually wheels were hideous). Caught it up on the maintenance and fresh brakes all around and full banks setup with the their multi parameter display, full exhaust and a few other things tossed in.

We had almost as much in all the work was he paid for the truck. But he’s still 40k under a new truck with all the emissions crap and complexity that goes with it. It was a win.

I have a 2004.5 LLY with 330k miles, engine is untouched other then the water pump a couple months ago.

I also have a 2007 Classic LBZ, 76k miles. Got this one last summer.

I've got an '18 with the L5P, and the last year of the 6 speed Allison. Haven't had an issue, tows our 5th wheel like a champ and the emissions stuff hasn't been an issue either. Everything is dead stock, and that's how I'll leave it...

My personal opinion is I hate trucks that have been focked with, tuned to the moon, lifted, levelled, aftermarket everything, big stupid exhaust etc etc. Nothing but problems, and knowing the type of guys that do a lot of that stuff to em, driven like they were stolen. Then, the worst is stripped off and it's sold as if it was only driven to church on Sundays. Pass.

Agree w Rene’
I got mine 4 years ago and when I looked at it, on a lift, stock from front to back, even the oem shocks, intake and exhaust. Unless you know the history of it, shoot for stock stuff.
I replaced belts hoses brakes and water pump when I got mine as a peace of mind thing. I was going to tow to Moab, so I wanted the insurance of knowing what I had. See my thread on it, it may give you some insight on buying as well.

Bruce the mechanical Great White shark...see the little shark fin on the roof? :haha:

The mechanical shark in Jaws was named Bruce.
