Doing the conversion on a 14 bolt and the caliper appears to be to close to the axle making the outside pad way too tight. Its tight enough that you cant turn the rotor and the inside pad has a ton of room, what am I doing wrong???

We are using DIY brackets (I know alot of guys have run those)

Caliper should slide laterally (left-to-right) some... you should put some silicone (well, brake ;) ) lube on the pins.

If it's slid all the way in, though, maybe there is something wrong. What kind of 14bff -- i.e. what year, and what vehicle did it come out of? (truck, van, SRW, DRW, etc.)

Hence the problem the bracket or something else is pulling the caliper way to far in.

86 one ton chevy pickup SRW

anyone else had the brackets be off a bit. If we put a washer in between the caliper mounting bracket and the flange on the axle it might space it out far enough.

But these are bent brackets would like to avoid that if possible

As far as I know the wheel bearings are tight (tightened them twice to make sure) and the axle was fine with drum brakes I really doubt the axle is bent or any other thing like that.

Did you replace bearings and races, specifically the inner bearing and race?

Both sides, same problem?

Do you have the right rotors? I had one that looked almost identical to the other ones I was using but it ended up being slightly deeper (boxed wrong), bolted up and everything but then I couldn't get the inside pad on.

No and yes same side both problems one side a little less. I am glad you posted on this I really don't think its a prob with your brackets but something simple that I overlooked

We'll square it away no prob. bud! Be it brackets, or something else.

i used the azz-kickin kit a long time ago...
and I had the same exact problem... sorry I dont remember the order..

but did your kit come with spacers?

if so you may have them on the wrong spot...

i vaguelly remember the bolt, spacer and lock washer that held the caliper bracket on had to be re arranged....
