I've got a friend who's getting a new rear end, and is willing to sell me the disc brake setup off of his 03 Silverado 1500 10 Bolt rear end cheap. I have an 88 K5, with a 10 Bolt. Does anyone know if the swap is doable? Easy (well, as far as a drum to disc brake conversion can be easy)?

Don't think they will bolt up yours, it is a corporate 10 bolt the 03 is an american axle 10 bolt.

If its out of a silverado, it would be a leaf sprung axle. Wonder what the spring pad width is. Might be able to swap the whole axle pretty easy if the gears match.......not sure though. My guess is it would require a conversion ujoint, and maybe a spring pad move.

I did some measuring off of the suburban/avalanche/tahoe brakes one time. They came up pretty close. Only problem is parts are expensive, and they have problems with those disc setups, especially the silverado's. Calipers are junk. They eventually went back to drums on most in 05'. Discs were still available under certain packages, but yeah you'd be better off holding off for a better setup.

It does have leafs... and I think they're the same width, though a little welding would be necessary (shock mounts), and like you said, probably moving the spring pad.

And thanks for the info on the brakes. I'd never much looked into them, and am pretty content to stick with drums, just had a good deal come by and was wondering how good of a deal it really was. If the brakes are junk, may not be all that good a deal.
