Anyone know how to put disc's on a Van width 14bolt ot Eaton? Need to know to get a project finished up. Just add more spacers  or is there a better way?

Are the hubs the difference? I thought the difference in width was the axle housing itself. Which would mean that a regular disc conversion would do it.

Well, what matters is the spacing from the hub to the flange that holds the backing plate, as Ryan says, not the overall width.

That said, I can't remember what the spacing is supposed to be. If it doesn't fit -- and it sounds like you've tried it -- then yep, spacers, pipe around a bolt, or re-welding something is called for.

I haven't tryed it yet but I have another Eaton sitting right nest to it with disc's and the Van one had a bit more distance from the mounting face to the actual hub :( .

The van width axle will use the standard disc swap stuff. The housing is where the difference in width comes from. The axle shafts are also longer because of the housing being wider.

That is because eatons and 14FF are not the same. The brakes on a van 14FF are the same as a regular SRW 14FF so the disc brake kits are the same.

Now someone tells me. I should have left the 14bolt part off. I don't have any use for them anyway.

Just put more spacer in and call it good huh?

Maybe I missed something... are you working on an old Eaton axle or a 73+ van width 14 bolt? I know there are some common parts between these two axles they are still different animals so you really can't use one to judge disc kits for the other.

Eaton, I figured they were the same. I've never done anything with a 14bolt so I guess I don't know :o .

I'm running a van width 14 with a discs. I used 3/4" plate to space out the weld on brackets. It's all good.:wink1:
