My neighbor got some new BFGs and he was told they were 33s. Im running M/T 33 x 12.5 x 15 and my tires looked so much smaller. I got out a tape measure and my tires from ground to top of the tire measure 31.5 Granted they arent new, BUT, they only have about 5000-6000miles on them IF that much. So either they werent true 33s from the beginning and/or they wear fast on pavement. I run 30psi in the tires. I tried to run 32-35s but got some weird uneven wear, called M/T and they said to run 28-30psi and no more than that.

Next go around will probably be BFGs.

hard to argue with BFG's... VERY consistent and durable tires... I've been a fan since I was a pup, I've run dozens of BFG's on hotrods and trucks over the years.. quality tire company..

yep, BFG sizing is probably the closest to actual diameter size. Don't be disappointed because of this, you were happy till you saw your neighbor's. Have you even had them offroad yet?

My 35 x 12.5 Cooper's measure 33"...I haven't found a true sized tire yet, at least in the common radial sizes out there.

Ive had these tires for a couple years. Ive had it off roading a dozen times, works great and they are wearing evenly so dunno.

Was the weight of the truck on the tire when you measured? The height is easily 1" smaller in that case.

It is rare that the stated tire diameter is what the tire actually measures. Years ago back in my race care days I was running M/T Sportsman Pro tires and they were alot shorter than the size claimed to be so I made a call to M/T and they stated that the size on those tires are the LARGEST that they would grow to when hot (granted this was a race car tire and not an offroad tire or even a normal street car tire).

Different brands are different sizes, even though they might all say "235/75-15" as an example...a friend who ran a tire shop ran into this daily when people came in looking for one new tire after one got slashed,or a used one...I remember him telling me one day a guy came in wanting 4 "good enough to pass inspection" tires for his 4wd truck--but they had to be all the same size...lucky he didn't just go by the sizes marked on the tires, instead,he measured them with a giant sized pair of calipers--and when the guy left he had 4 identical SIZED tires, but one was a 235-75-15 goodyear, another was a 225-70-15 Michelin,etc....I made the mistake of buying 4 tires marked 235-75-15's but all different brands, and I had a lopsided truck for about 6 months till I found some "mates" to them--one was almost 1.5" taller than the smallest one!..

I see lots of guys complaining about garden tractor and ATV tires not measuring up to what they say the size is marked on them on another site I frequent too--so its not just cars & trucks tires that "lie"...many who bought 26x10.50x12" AG treads found they are really more like 23-24" tall once mounted, and they were not happy!..

Like stated, you basically don't actually get the height from a tire that it stated on the sidewall.

I have 33x15.50 M/T Baha Claw radials on my '06 Ram Cummins and have been very happy with them. They have worn incredibly well. They have 15K on them and have 70%+ tread still. That is impressive in my book with a truck that weighs 7500lbs and has nearly 1000ft lbs pushing on the drivers towing up hill.

Known issue with about all tires and the MT's are known for being a bit on the shorter side. Friend ended up putting 35's on his Ram because they fit and the 33's were like you found, tall 31's.

I had a set of 29.5" tall Goodyear P265/75R16 Wrangler RT/S's on my Ram when I got it. 2" below the claimed height.

A decade ago I had generic AT's in 285/75R16 that measured out to about 32.5" and a friend of a friend had 35x12.5R15 BFG MT's on his truck and they were hardly half an inch taller than mine. Spec wise should have been almost 2" taller.

For the record my new 305/70R16 GT Radial MT's are 32.5" tall ish on the truck and spec about a half inch taller.

It's usually just a generic number they come up with that "fits" in the range of sizes tires that tall "should" measure.

How wide of rim do you have it on? A wider rim will make the tire shorter.

Heh..funny people in this thread. lol

Ive got stock steel rims. so im guessing 15 x 8

Im running 33 x 12.5 x 15. I wish companies made more 33 x 11.5s.

Ive always thought my tires looked smaller, but ive got two friends that just got new tires , they got the metric version of the 33s and mine always looked off. I finally measured them.

I think next go around im going to go with "small" 35s.
