the reason i think its the distrubitor is because when i checked the cap and rotor, it had been cross firing inside and half ass melted or welded all the tabs and the rotor. it looked like there had been quite a bit of moisture in there at one point, even some rust on the inside
thats why i think the distrubitor is messing up. i changed the cap and rotor, but it didnt solve the issue. plus a hot rodder i know had the same symptoms with a 305, and he swapped out the distributer, and he said it went away.

update>>>> got the burb up and going. turned out to be the little hose between the fuel pump housing and fuel pump. it had a split in it, so it was sucking air, starving the motor of gas. long story short, new pump and hose, fresh fuel, and a oil change, and running like a champ. thx for all the help. will be in a position early june to get full membership status. looking forward to shooting the **** in the lounge, and seeing pictures
