I am in the process of replacing my igntion module and took everything apart to find that i need to replace more than it. i was going through summit to find some aftermarket options. i found this,
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=PNX-D8001&autoview=sku
its a pertronic HEI tune-up kit. has anyone used this before? im open to any and all options also. im trying not to replace the whole distributor since im on a budget but maybe i should, so let me know please! thanks

The HEI distributor only has an ignition module and a pick-up coil inside and those items aren't very expensive. The only other thing inside is the wiring that connects those items and rarely goes bad.

I agree, they are pretty simple pieces to take apart and rebuild...much easier than a carb, I think.

Well I need a new cap also. And I don't really want to put a stock module back in. Everythi g I have read says they fail alot. I might piece it together though. I'm trying to weigh my options

a good coil and wires get you anywhere.

non cracked cap, good enough rotor are basic

i have a module from a local autoshop thats been working for years, no brand on it but i always carry a spare, holly crap wait i aint using a module, forgot jejejejeje im using the spark box direct to the pick up and coil

Schucks/O'Reiley's sells a Pertronix HEI Distributor brand new for like $105. I thought about going that route when I refreshed my distributor, but mine's a Mallory and worth tossing a few bucks at. If your running an old stocker, get ahold of a local auto parts shop and see what they quote you...or go on partsamerica.com and find it for your truck. (most places price match)

How much did the spark box cost you?

Stock HEI typically lasts hundreds of thousands of miles and decades...AC Delco modules.

Only thing that really could use improving is the coil. Anything extra in the ignition is just that...another failure point.

I have heard only good things about ac delco so I much go with that route. I don plan on a box. I have I man other things I wanna do first

What kind of spark plugs do yallrun? I'm thinking about getting the ones you custom make to fit your truck. Their cheaper but has anyone used them?
