does anyone know if that rod that runs from the motor mount to the transfer case on the passenger side is called and if so can you ditch it

It is called the Transfer Case Support Strut Rod. I would not ditch it if you plan on keeping the 700/208 combo. It helped reduce the liklihood of craking the aluminum bellhousings on the early 700r4s. Youre gonna have a totally different setup with the 465/205, so its not needed.

I don't have one & haven't for awhile. I got rid of mine cause it wouldn't quite bolt up after the tranny rebuild & tcase rebuild, otherwise I would have kept it.

I had one on my old 400/205 passengerside bellhouseing to t-case. No problems, It only helps....the stiffy

Keep it and if you've got the ones from your motor mounts to the converter cover, keep them too...and if you haven't got them, get them! Your motor/trans/t-case are mounted in two places longitudenly (is that a word? you know what I mean), apart from the torque of your motor trying to twist the whole assembly like a big carrott about to snap, when you go over any big bumps or get any air that whole assembly will try to flex in the middle when it lands and the trans is only bolted to the motor at the top and sides by 6 comparitivly small bolts.
