While staring at my spare NP208 the other day with a good buzz on,I thought of something...

Lets say you wanted a divorced transfer case ,(not nessasarily for a truck, but maybe a truggy or home built tractor,etc--) and all you have are the usual "married" ones that bolt right to the tranny using an adapter..
I had the brainstorm of using a tailshaft housing off a tranny ,you could bolt it to the adapter like the tranny normally would, and you could maybe use the splined portion of a tranny output shaft to join the input of the transfer case ,and a sliding yoke as used on a car or 2wd tranny to couple it to the tranny...

Think it'd work??,:dunno:---or should I have had a few more shots, and said "nahhh, that'll NEVER work"??...sometimes my best ideas come when I'm buzzed, and simple is usually better than complicated..wonder if I'm the first one to think of this?...

that actually sounds like a good idea.......you would have to modify the tailshaft housing to fit the adaptor plate as both of them are made to couple to the back of the trans....

It would need to be bored like the trans case to slip onto the adaptor....with the seal facing away from the transfer case.

an output shaft cut from a T-400 trans....long female spline section from a driveshaft yoke..as a coupler....slip yoke on the other end as the input driveshaft yoke...

I like the idea.......:waytogo:
