i found this thread to make your own beadlocks. so i have the rims I'm going to use and I'm thinking of ordering the parts. is this how you would do it?

i never knew you could mount the tire on the outside of the rim like in the pic? don't you usually weld on an internal ring?

The article shows the inner ring welded on. Thats pretty much how all single beadlocks work. Lots of guys here run DIY beadlocks with success. Just make sure you get good welds and get the tire centered on the ring before you tighten it.

so i just weld a ring on the outside lip of the wheel then the tire goes on the outside of that lip on the outside of the rim?? then just use nuts and bolts to secure the tire on. so the tire wont go on the inside of the rims lip like without beadlocks?

i dont see an inner ring. is this what your talking about? it looks to me like its outside the lip?

If you look close at the first pic the inner ring is welded in...

It's the plain ring with no slots, just holes...

In the second pic you can see the inner ring underneath the outer ring...

yea i thought there was an internal ring like inside the bead of the rim. that ring is on the outside lip of the rim. so you do pinch the tire between the outside of the first lip and the ring?? when not running beadlocks your tire goes inside the rims lip but now its going outside its lip where you welded the new ring correct? now do you do the same to the inside of the rim facing your axle? so for one tire you need to buy two internal rings and two external rings?

Yes, the outer bead of the tire goes on the outside of the rim and is clamped in place by the beadlock rings.

You got the first part figured out...

No on the inside of the rim... You'd never get it over the brakes...

You can put a raised weld on the inside to help with the inner bead...

Or just go with Hummer double bead lock rims...

Check this link. It shows how the tire sits

Yeah this style of beadlock can't be used on the inner bead because of clearance. There are double beadlocks that use an insert and a two piece wheel like the HI wheels and aftermarket companies like Stazworks and Hutchinson.

The need for an inner beadlock is pretty low. Relatively all of the forces off road are seen on the outer bead. I consistently run 5-7 lbs of air with my single beadlocks and have yet to have an issue with my inner bead.

perfect thanks guys. makes since you dont need one on the inside. does anyone know where i can get some?? i would like to but them from Kert but his are just so darn expensive.

I know great lakes sells a DIY kit as well.

I thought about it for a long while and eventually bought a set of Allieds. I figured I was going to upgrade from a 15" wheel anyway so the cost of new wheels plus a DIY kit was similar to what I paid for my manufactured beadlocks.
