DIY Dual Exhaust K5 Blazer...

Another option; my friends exhaust was shot, we went to the boneyard and found a fairly new looking exhaust system on a k5, we took it off and took it home for 30 bucks, bonus on the easy install

Lots of different ways to skin this cat. Thankfully, exhaust systems for these trucks are inexpensive and readily available. I have Hooker competion headers with the dual Hooker header back exhaust. Fits nicely, took about an hour to install, just slapped a couple of Thrush mufflers and went with it. If you have a specific idea or want something fit to your particular setup a shop is the way to go.

Well, I finally said "screw it", and I just paid the local muffler shop to do the work. My "shop" is not really set up to bend pipe and make it look good. Here's what they did. I bought two Dynomax (Walker) California cats, 4 O2 sensors, and two Thrush Hush Super Turbos.

So far so good. I'm really surprised how quiet the turbo mufflers are and how clean smelling it is. Granted, I haven't had a chance to run down the highway with the back glass down, but if smell becomes an issue then I'll extend the pipes out the side or something. I'm just glad to have the 5.3 LS swap finally complete. There's so much more horsepower now than before. The throttle response makes my pecker hard. Oops.. maybe that was too much information.

What he said.

If you drive it with the back window down you'll get fumes in threw the back window like that.

Tips straight out the back do that too. Only way around that is to go out the sides, or out at an angle.

I've got a burb, and still smell fumes within a minute of having the back down. Freeway or not.

That's why mine go out the sides. :thumb:

How did you get around the support bar from bellhousing to right side of transfer case? I'm running l9ng tube headers and trying to route the right side pipe

I have a Flowmaster that dumps at the rear axle, smell is really bad if I have the rear window open and the cat is still cold. You can't smell much once the cat is heated up, but this thread makes me want to get a side exhaust

Rear "spoiler" seems to help quite a bit as well. Not that great at low vehicle speeds, but it does help.

Even with side exit I get the smell once in awhile, in times I've let the engine run rich.
