I'm in the middle of fabricating my 205 support this weekend...:D

I bought a DIY4X4 kit that has a spacer ring, as well as the plate that the mount welds to... I'm real tight on space due to my doubler and my crossmember mount for my traction bar....

my question is..... "what is the ring for?" :dunno:
Is it really needed? I don't see any purpose for it other than to space the main plate away from the cover...

Anyone ever install the kit without the spacer ring ?

Here's a pic...

Looks like it could be a mount like the '73-'77 Ford F250 Highboys had with divorced t-cases where they ran a support rod/bar from the lower cover on the t-case to the frame crossmember. I have one in the shop.

The main plate won't sit flat against the aluminum bearing plate. There are some protrusions from the tcase. The ring provides the clearance needed to get the main plate to sit flat and true.

Is this true on all models of the bearing plate ?
I kinda thought that was what it was for, but mine seems to sit flat without the ring....:dunno:

I'll double check it,,, and if that is all the spacer is for, I may be able to get by without it....

That little space may keep me from having to modify a brace on my doubler crossmember.

It's possible that they wouldn't all require the spacer ring.

The ones we have to work with here in the shop have an approx. 1/2" diameter nub that sticks out. And there was another spot that it didn't clear. Can't remember what that part looked like. May even be possible to grind down those few spots that don't clear but I didn't bother looking at the inside surface. Most of our customers probably would rather not take the case open.
