Who is running DIY4X's Gaurdsman. How bad does it hang up on things? Like the idea and design but don't want to be installing an anchor.

I have herd that as much as it looks like a shovel and would hang up on things it does quite well. acts like a ramp and does not hook up on stuff much. the protection out weighs the negitives. Im getting one when I get the Wraptor setup.

B_to_C runs one and he got hung up on it once. However if you look at the situation closer, the alternative would have been a completely trashed drive shaft and probably the yoke too.

That thing was staight up abusing the rock. It was sending chips flying without blinking an eye.

Nick's pinion angle is basically factory, so if you had the pinion rotated up for a CV shaft it would definitely act more as a skid.

I just installed one, and my pinion is rotated up a couple of degrees. I haven't taken it off road yet, but just looking at it, and like Scott said, you were going to hang up on the yoke if you hang on the Gaurdsman.

I installed and wrote the article on the Guardsman a few years back and (by choice) I am still running the Guardsman.

The yoke on the front D60 has been severely "beat up"- I have even had to replace the ubolts twice now. On the 14BFF though, the yoke has been untouched by the rocks.

Does it hang up? Sure- occasionally. I'd rather beat on it than on the yoke.
I sure wish Kert would come up with some sort of yoke protection for the D60.

Here's the Gurardsman article:

As soon as time permits, a new article will be published showcasing 2 new DIY4X products that all GM guys can use...:wink1:

Yeah, I've recently been thinking about D60 yoke protection after installing a 1410 yoke.

That thing has saved my drive line yolk many times over. I am on 33's and get caught on everything. I have cracked rocks in half with that thing a few times landing on them. Worth its weight in gold I'd say.

He just wanted to make MORE rocks to wheel through later. :rotfl:

:haha::haha::haha:

I would rather have the clearance instead of a shovel. It looks like the drivelive would have been fine without it in the pic. Every inch counts when it comes to clearance in the rocks.

I have one on a 14 bolt. havent had a chance to use it yet. I think it has its ups and downs:confused:. It wont be good in the mud.

If either of these two conditions ever happens, I'd like to see some photos. Thanks!

You got to love a woman who buys truck parts for you for Christmas, AND cooks a killer Christmas dinner aswell. I got a Guardsman for Christmas . Thanks to Kert for helping my woman decide what to get that would arive on time for Christmas.

Same here. I have one on my K30 (which is a pretty heavy truck) and it has been great. Do I hit rocks with it? Sure. But I'll trade a half an inch of "clearance" for steel so thick it cracks rocks any day of the week.

The other thing people don't seem to be mentioning is that "clearance" in this case is kind of hard to measure. Is the guardsman the lowest part of the axle? Nope. So theoretically it doesn't affect clearance at all. It only matters when approaching a rock of a very specific height at a very specific angle and at a very specific spot under the truck. I'll take an Achille's Heel that small any day.

Thanks Kert!
