DIY4X motor mounts?

I am considering getting the DIY4X competition motor mounts for my LQ9 conversion in my 73 Jimmy. Since I am fabricating up a custom engine cross member I figure I should get some better mounts rather than the stocker mounts.

One thing I am concerned with is I have always been told that you should keep both the motor mounts and transmission mounts (Transfer case) the same material. Given that the DIY4X mounts are poly...should I get poly mounts for the transfer case as well? and if so, where would I find poly mounts for a NP203 transfer case?

Cheers,

Rufus

well, I run over there and what do I find? Urethane transfer case mounts. Thanks blowedupmotor87!

Does everyone still recommend that all mounts be the same material?

Rufus

ORD definitely has them.. Kert does not.... But if your doing a custom x-member, custom mounts should be pretty easy.. I may just do my own...

No prob bro! I hope everything is going well with your build! Do you have any pics up?

Oh, and about the material, yeah, I have always heard the mounts should all be the same material, that way there is not any point where one component can twist more than another and something break.

I'm not sure if I skipped a detail or something, but the LQ9 does NOT have the same bolt pattern on the block as all previous SB and BBC's. Gen 3 and 4 LS motors all have a 4 bolt pattern. Also, the "center" of the pattern isn't in the same place as the earlier motors.

Since you're already making a custom crossmember, why not buy a plate with the correct bolt pattern and go from there?

That being said, there is a bare LM7 in the shop (externally identical to your LQ9), so measurements could be taken.

No Pics of the build yet. It is going slow as family usually comes before the truck :-).

I do have a video of the first startup of the LQ9. This is using the megasquirt Fuel injection system I put together myself.

Best appreciated with the use of large speakers. It sounds healthy. :-)

Mikey_do5, you are 100% correct. The LQ9 (and all LSx motors for that matter) has a 4 hole pattern as you mentioned. I have some adapter plates that will allow me to convert from LSx mounts to the SBC mounts. with regards to the centering you are once again correct. that along with hooking a 4l65e trans to my existing transfer case will push my mounts way off the stock cross member, thus the custom cross member and mounts.

SWEET! Sounds great! That's gonna be a great powerplant for your rig! Gonna be a nice power jump from stock! :thumb:

It should do nicely! It will eventually be a dual fuel rig running on either propane or gas at the flick of a switch (2 sets of injectors). The engine I had in the rig was on 100% propane since 1974 and finally gave up the ghost last year with almost 400,000 miles. I figured it was time for an upgrade! :-)

Cool. Didn't mean to come off as an ass, just wanted to make sure you were aware of the differences. Looks like you have done your homework and have it all taken care of, the motor mounts should do quite nicely. :waytogo:

Mikey, I took no offense at all, in fact I am always looking for any constructive criticism. I am not the smartest tool in the shed at times so it is entirely possible that I am missing something or overlooking something :-)

This is definitely a strange drive train so I am sure there will be a bunch of pitfalls along the way.

03 Cadillac Escalade 6.0 and trans mated to a re drilled and clocked NP 203 all stuffed between the frame rails of a 73 jimmy with a full custom EFI setup...I am asking for trouble... :doah:

Rufus

Don't worry Rufus, I've got something in the works that is uhhh...just a touch unconventional.

Is the 203 just a 203? Planning for a doubler later (or already have one) or are you sticking with the 203 for some other reason?

It is indeed just a 203 at the moment (on a home rebuild). In fact for the most part the truck is almost entirely stock...right down to the 27" tires! ACK! Gotta fix that!

The plan is to eventually run a 205 behind it (the 203 range box) in a doubler. This will act as a proving ground to make sure I have the 4l65e to 203 adapter in place and operating properly. It also allows me to not have to shell out the limited amount of $$$ I currently have on getting custom drive shafts.

Cheers,
Rufus

I know its a little late (3 yrs). Energy suspension has poly mounts. I found ORD to be a bit pricey. Good products though.
