I just ordered a set of tube doors from diy4x. They up charged me for not having the logo cut in the doors, has this been everyone else experience? I know they are missing out on a little advertising??

I guess I get that they want the logo in there but dang. I know at one point they were charging extra for bare finish vs the standard gloss black powder coat.

The bare finish I could understand. Who wants to get a pair of rusty doors they just paid for, so I’m sure they would have to be cleaned before sending out (If they stock them)

It’s interesting your first post ever, in 6 years, is to voice your concern about the upcharge. I think his doors are the best option out there. I got lucky to find them lightly used WAY back when they started selling them.

I agree, they seem like the best option, and I'm sure I will love them, I'm just not big on stickers and logos all over my truck.

my guess is production ease... i would bet that is cut in there before it is installed on the door... probably a hassle if you are not keeping both versions on the shelf.. actual built to order with a blank piece put in instead.....

Couple reasons.

We calculate a product price based on time and materials to produce just like anyone else. If it carries the logo, we then deduct an amount for advertising for us. If the logo goes away, which we are happy to do, I get it, So does the discount.

Secondly, and this only pertains to tube doors. The door skins are made of 14ga. Steel. The only thing we make from that gauge. So, when we cut door skins we cut several sets. Now we have them in stock. So, when you order a set without a logo, I have to load a sheet of 14ga. For your “one” set. It’s a time drain.

Back in the day, we would cut a couple blank sets but God as my witness, I swear if we had a blank set on the shelf, they never sell. It’s really uncanny how it works that way. In some instances of this phenomenon, I’ve actually looked at the numbers and it’s real and bizarre.

In the case of dashes with no logo, ignoring the discount thing for a moment, it’s easy to delete the logo while we’re cutting. The glove box door is the hole from that panel. All custom cut so we never stock a glove box door. But… here’s what happens, you’re rocking and rolling, draft the dash, import, cut, drill, bend, weld, blast and buff, powder coat and…. Dammit, no logo. Now we gotta back track. Yep my fault. Not blaming a soul other than myself.

Dashes walk an odd line of existence somewhere between completely custom and regular production. Each one is drafted and saved under your name. I have a drawing for every dash we’ve produced since day 1. The thing that makes them more like a production piece is the cuts are fairly standard and go in the same places. Gauge sizes and layouts are copy, paste. Single din stereo is always the same size and 99.999% in the same place, etc. etc. it’s pretty easy to miss deleting the logo. If we miss it, again, my fault. Going to fast. But, I guess that’s the point. Just another thing that slows me down.

There has been many times I wanted to produce a “standard” dash that we could cut and stock. Even give it a price point break. But…. See above. It’ll never sell. I think when customers want to drop that much on something for their truck, the discount is moot. They want it the way they want it. End of story.

I guess, bottom line is order if you want, the prices are what they are. We try to fully inform you of the prices at the time you place your order. Currently we cannot inform of shipping costs because we are back logged a good deal.

I believe there are about 20 dashes and maybe 10 sets of doors to be built with cages, bumpers and what not mixed in to those long lead items.

Actually, I appreciate this conversation coming up. In discussing it with Tracy, I just became aware of an issue in our pricing structure regarding unwelded tube doors.

Thanks for the explanation. As it happens, I did order the unwelded tube doors, as I wanted to add something/modify slightly, before painting. Looking forward to assembling them when they arrive.
Thanks again.

personal opinion here but I think it’s a little snarky to have an issue with a product and come on a forum to gripe when you could’ve easily picked up the phone and asked the reasoning behind it….just saying. I’ve talked to Kert many times and he’s always willing to take the time to discuss things with people.

First post too as pointed out above. No hey look at this cool Blazer I’m building, straight to to it… :haha:

fwiw Kert has answered the phone few times I’ve called his shop too, always helpful.
