So I start the disc brake conversion on my truck today. The axles are from an 84 CUCV and I go to put the rotor on and it does not fit, the stock hub is too wide. Anyone ever run into that before. I have done this conversion on other one ton axles and never had a problem

Could your rotors be for a semi-float 14 bolt? Maybe they're out of round or didn't get machined right.

Just throwin' thoughts out there.

So the first stupid question is, is it a 14BFF? There were some M1028's made as duallies, so it could be a D70 of some flavor. (OTOH, I thought the D70's used the same hubs as a 14 bolt.)

Mid 70's K20 rotor would be the right one, but in the back of my mind is a bit about how a few brands or castings are different somehow. :dunno:

Post up pix of the hub, if you would?

definately a 14b full float and definately not a drw I pulled them from the truck it was an 84 CUCV pictures forthcoming

I remember someone else having similar issues. I believe dremu is correct in saying that some rotor hats were made with a smaller bore that won't fit over the 14FF hub

I searched to see if I could find a similar issue and tried several different rotors at the parts store. I am getting a one ton rotor to see if it will work it should and its only a 1/4 bigger overall diameter ( at least according to them) than the 3/4 ton front rotor

Anyway heres some pics of the hub

Here is the front veiw

Here is the back view

And just for reference here is one of the drums that came off.

I kind of don't think different parts houses would have different sizes for the same thing would they. I went to autozone and car quest

Measure the i.d. of the rotor hole and also the 14FF drum.

Lets see if others chime in with a different sized hole on their rotors.

Those look like the slip-on drums (later style) rather than the drums that get sandwiched between the hub and lugs. Were you trying to put it on the back side of the hub?

I think the opposite. You can see where the hub was on the drum. I think he drove the studs back in and tried to slip the rotor on over the outside. Hence the studs already back in the hub with no rotor between them.:D

x3 i think also.

and 1ton rotor is thicker also along with bigger.

o.k. i found the info.

k10 rotor dia 11.860 and 1.285 thick new
k20 rotor dia 12.500 and 1.285 thick new
k30 rotor dia 12.875 and 1.535 thick new

ding ding ding you guys get it right. I suppose that 4 hours of sleep a night for like 3 weeks straight is probably not good for my mental status. I knew it was just something stupid, I have done more than one of these and just nothing was clicking. Hopefully a few good nights of sleep will make my "odd 14 bolt" go away :doah:
