How do I tell what is running around in the A/C system of my truck? The previous owner had a new compressor put on it a year before I bought it (2 years ago), and I think it is possible that he had it converted. Is there any easy way to tell? The dryer has a sticker that says it is R12 and R134a compatible...

if its r-12 then the fittings look exactly like the air valves on you tires, but bigger, and the caps screw on there, and so does the recharge tool. if its r-134a, then they are different, and the recharge tool sorta 'snaps' on to it.

R134 fittings are quick connect and R12 fittings are screw on and are smaller. I would imagine that it has R134 if it was just done 2 years ago.

Hm. I would have just assumed that it was R134a, but it was done by the Previous Owner.

I did check it today, and, surprisingly, it was actually converted to R134a. The PO didn't tighten all the fittings, though, so all the chilly stuff leaked out.
