Do I need the whole kit in order to replace my speedo gears or can I just get away with the 2 gears? My np208 needs 17 tooth drive/ 40 tooth driven gears...

all you need are the gears, unless something is missing or broke.
It may depend. If the gears are different enough from stock, a new sleeve *might* be necessary.
Can't remember if it is the TH350 or TH400 (or both) but there are different sleeves based on the gear tooth count.

it depends on what your old housing (sleeve) had in it. a 34 to 39 tooth driven gear takes a different housing then that of a 40 to 45 tooth driven gear
