I would probably go ahead and do the mods, especially since the main fitting is really hard to get to on the 6.2's (at least on mine it would be tougth to get out the fitting with the pump still in the truck).
I removed the washer for a little higher pressure, and drilled out the body of the fitting for a little more flow. Just put the hydro assist on but it seems to work pretty good. With the hydroboost brakes at idle and stationary I could hold the brakes down and the steering still felt pretty good.
