Do the inner rockers on your K5 have drain holes?

My 74 has indents where the outer and inner rocker meet.

They don't drain that great. That's why they they're always rusted out. Lol

Thank you for the picture.

I'm welding in some new inner rockers and I'm trying to decide if I should add some drain holes. I'm thinking about going with no drain holes and then filling the space with foam.

My current rig doesn’t but I’m debating drilling some 1/16” holes for drainage.

Drain holes prevent rust by allowing moisture to drain. Foam will get wet, stay wet and rot your stuff out ten times as fast. I ran just outer skins for many years and never had a single rust bubble. On my 90 I added inners, but enlarged the drain hole areas so it would never get plugged, and again never had any rust issues.

Go with 1/2" or larger. 1/16" will plug on day two...on the inside part of the rocker of course.

Closest thing to water this truck will get is an errant mud puddle at the off road park or if I get caught in a rain storm. And not because it’s a pavement princess. Just the reality of when I drive it. But I’ll consider something larger than 1/16”.

The foam will make it rust faster. If you have it open. Best bet is to epoxy/Urethane coat it.

The issue is the water runs off the windshield into the cowl and down into the front of the rockers.

If you keep the drains open and not clogged they do pretty good at allowing airflow so it dries. Doesn't take much leaf litter and crud to clog up the whole thing.

I lathered on some Eastwood internal frame coating. It's a high zinc coating. Then I spray in the wax/water repellent stuff once a year.

Spraying oil in between the two panels would work also.
