Looks like someone welded an early style D44 thick backing plate to do a disc brake swap.
If it's not warped it should work I guess.

i got it a week ago and was wondering.it has a locker also. so i thought i might save some time.:rolleyes:but i don't want to have six different brands of truck parts to get at every brake change.:laugh:this is the reason i never buy a modified vehicle. ya never know what was done.if i can motivate myself, i'll drag the 44 close to it and see what i have.thanks brother, daryl

I second the opinion of them being early d44 brakets. seen several done that way. Nothing wrong with it.

I am not saying it's wrong, but most times you will see a flange welded and then the backing plate bolted.
To me it makes more sense because a big piece like this could get bent, if it's bolted you unbolt it and replce it.
It's hard to bend a flange. :D

i have a 44 out of a 72 k20. it's hard to tell from the pics. i guess i have to go out in the cold tommorow to see.:doah: and my little radio flyer axle transporter.:haha:

i have run the 3/4 ton plates on custom spacers bolted up before no problems. i kind of like it my self makes it look more stock .

That is a piont I never thought about. If it did get bent it would only be on the bottom & you could just take a pry bar & pry it away from the rotor. In most applications I would think the rim & tire would prevent it from taking much of a hit. It would be possible though.

i can't wait to get rid of this rear axle. S M all . thats Goofy1 taping the place to cut the fenders.i figure the tires take care of that.
