Just wondering as I'm starting my panic'ed count down to BB14.
Do you carry spare driveshafts and axles with you or leave them at camp?

Also, I don't have any OBA, I hope bumming air from folks is kosher.

Lending air isn't an issue for me. Lotta guys stay aired down til the last day.

I just carry ujoints. There's a balance between having spares and carrying to much weight. There's no shortage of people willing to lend help and parts as needed. Or even make a trip back to town to get something.

Truth its also nice wheeling will similar rigs. Blazer Bash is like going wheeling with your buddies everyone is will in to help.

You do have to strike a balance between weight and parts.

In moab I tend to carry way fewer spare parts because I can usually get back to the trailer. But that's can mean end in your day early when it could be fixed easily on the trail.

Pack your blazer with everything you could possibly want. Then start thinning it out.

Wheeling with simple rigs is the key. When I snapped a front joint strap, a few people had the same ujoint and strap 1310. We were about done for the day so I got out the rest of the day in 2wd

I cary both front shafts, but just joints for the drive shafts. If I brake a back axle, something bigger is way wrong.

I carry all 4 axle shafts, U-joints for drive shafts, a few extra hubs :doah::doah:, and lots of other fix it type stuff. Probably more than I need or should carry but oh well.

The crew that goes to blazer bash is always helpful and generous with parts and ribbing. Chances are what ever you break someone has or is willing to help you obtain it.

Yup, 70jimmy is prepared - came in handy a couple of years ago on Metal Masher :waytogo:

I used to carry spare axle shafts when I had a D44 and 12-bolt, not now with the D60 and 14-bolt. I have a spare front drive shaft and spare 14-bolt shafts at camp. I carry spare u-joints, straps/u-bolts, hub parts, and other odd-n-ends.

My first trip to BB, on the Thursday before, I broke the main leaf on a front spring. I didn't know anybody at BB, but thanks to some great folks in town, I was able to cobble together a spring pack and wheeled three more days!

Well lets see...

I run a 60/14. Spartan/ full Yukon shafts with joints, Yukon hardcore hubs. I have Yukon flanges for 35 spline spares. I have stock shafts with stock 30 spline hubs for axle spares. No 14b spare anything, but I've been told I'm crazy to think I need any LOL.

1350 driveshaft joints except the 14b has a 1410. I have caps for the hydro assist in case I need to delete the system.

I will be going through the trail check list shortly. I remember there being a thread about it. I even have a spare 208 with flange coming along on the trailer :D

Also, I don't have spare drivelines. I'm dreading that purchase. As if spending ~$1k wasn't hard enough the first time.

Had my smog/air pump seize and throw a belt once. I took the pump off and carrier an extra serpentine belt. Other than that, I haven't broken anything. That being said, I haven't really wheeled a whole lot, but what little I have was far from easy.

Can new drivelines be purchased in the Moab area? (without giving up my first born)
I'm going to add a couple leafs to the rear spring pack, to help with extra load and a bouncy ass. So I'll probably throw the remaining leafs in the trailer. I got nothing for the front leafs. Maybe an extra set of U Bolts front and rear?

I guess I'm just scared of ruining my week. I also don't want to let anyone down and screw up the trail experience for others.

Only way you can screw up the experience is by being a giant douche about breaking.

First year I went to blazer bash Kert came too. Man he had all sorts of problems and we had a blast all weekend. Got some good stories too.

Might think about a square drive shaft that fits front and rear as a spare. I made one up after taking out my rear shaft a couple times. Got me home, and way cheaper.

Never heard of anyone breaking a ubolt and if you need to replace a broken leaf it wouldn't be the end of the world to reuse the ubolts. Have had someone break off the spring perch that wasn't welded on well. Jame Watson from ORD did a field repair on it.

Like blazinzuk mentioned, if it's obvious you have made a good faith effort to take care of your stuff people won't hesitate to help. Heck even the douche bags get help for that matter. Otherwise Jason4x4 wouldn't keep coming back....

Oh and there are some shops in town but it probably won't be cheap to get repairs. There's an O'Reilly's and Napa and/or Carquest.

Some repairs are hard to anticipate. Last year I think in total 3 or 4 people needed ignition modules, at least 2 on 1 run. Seemed like a bizarre occurance.

In 2005 I had to have Moab 4x4 Outpost install a new ring and pinion. Wasn't cheap but they got it done the next day so we could get home.

Yeah, was just thinking about ring and pinion sets. I'm super easy with the throttle but I know sh** happens. I'll just hope my cheap set keeps doin the job.

Of course, all this thinking and preparing just means something..... never mind :D

yes, Moab outpost can make them, BUt you must give up your first And second born...

I had them make me one, simple slip with a u-joint on each end, was $400, but I had to drive it home, so I didn't have a choice.

It sounds like your trailering out to Moab, if so don't worry about a driveshaft. If your driving from Cali, get a rear shaft for a spare, one that can push you down the Hwy. at whatever speed you want to drive back to Cali at.

With your drive train I would carry ujoints and straps, a few Qts of each oil in the truck and electrical supplies. Then maybe a few misc. odd ball parts like locking hubs, maybe a stub shaft, a belt, some misc. plumbing lines and hoses.

Too many times we get wrapped up trying to make a field repair perfect and permanent. Think of a field repair as something that gets you to pavement/trailer. There are may ways to make just about anything work when you put your mind to it.

Have the big stuff at camp or on the trailer and lighten the load on the vehicle.
