do you run boots on your shocks?

I know this is kinda of a noob question :D but how many of you dont run boots on your shocks? will it be fine to run with out one or will the life of your shock be reduced. I know is the rod gets nicked it can take out the seal . I personaly think they look a lot better with out one.
 
I've always prefferred to run my shafts without a rubber boot on. It's just what feels right IMHO... ;)
 
I may be wrong but I would be worried about water and mud. I run them on my trucks but I never had boots on my muscle cars and didn't ever notice any deterieration (spelling?).
 
Actually, running boots is more likely to cause deterioration. They trap dirt, grime, and water in there and let it sit next to the seals while the shock travels. Eventually working away at the seal. I wouldn't run shock boots. I've seen the stock style ones(where the "boot" is a big metal sheave) with holes in them and stone and grit piled up inches deep in there. Not cool.
 
I run them, I also check them from time to time to make sure nothing is in there. So far they have been a benefit. I did cut slightly larger holes in the bottoms to let the water drain.
 
My truck had them when I first got it, and when I changed the shocks, a couple of the boots were full of dirt and mud and crud. I no longer run them because they seem to be a handy storage area fof stuff to ruin my shocks.
 
I had them on my front shocks when I bought the truck, when I took the shocks off for the lift, they were seized from the rust that got there from all the mud and crap built up in there.
Dont get any they will just ruin your shocks. :)
 
no boots... if Im nicking shock shafts Im doing way more damage than just a little shaft....
so NO... all they do is fill up with junk and rust the shock

See I WAS wrong now I'm takin them off mine!

I took them off of mine to prevent the mud build up inside and now my shafts are nicked up really bad :mad:
 
i took mine off, had them on for a little while, but they held water. no nicks, easier to clean, looks better
