anybody know what axle is under these trucks? i was looking at one the other day and its huge, the shaft housing is square not tubular and the pinion is massive.

what is the strength compatibility with a dana 60

front axle is built by Magna and has a 1013/16-inch ring gear,

the rear axle is a gargantuan Dana S111 with an 117/8-inch ring gear. Gear ratios are 4.10, 4.44, or 4.88 and that is based on the model and tranny

they use 1550 u-joints

so say you had a rear dana 60 and then the rear axle out of the dodge, which would be better? and why?

like he said rear D60s aren't even a 1ton rated rear diff.......there is no comparison. you cannot compare a rear D110 to a rear D60. its like taking a set of 44,000lb tandems out of T800 Kenworth and putting them beside a pair a Dana 35s out of a jeep. and trying to compare them.

Sounds bullet proof but theres only one problem..there still jinxed by the touch of dodge. In my 35 years of wheeling and owning a few P.U. type power wagons Ive never seen anyone who could use a 435/205/D60/D44 combo an still have a pile of s**t of a truck that breaks down constantly. the newer they were the worst it got specially the diesels we had, Go figure????

i think in the end its the oddballity of the axles. Its like having a mog axle..sounds bad arse and cool untill you break or wear something or get some bad luck. I like the fact that i can find parts for a dana 60 easily. For me the dana 60 meets my tire needs and wants. If I was to build something and try to wheel it in arizona with tires large enough to warrant those axles it would be retarded.

I think they would be awesome, just not a road I think I would travel considering the current options and market support that those options have.

well the reason i was wondering was because i see a lot of guys run D60's and D70's and 14bolts then the next upgrade is rockwells, i was wondering why this hasent been used, so that way you have strength but without completly modifying your rig a lot.

there not any easier than rockwells to make work. the fronts are coilsprung with these mega arms. they lug pattern is a small 10 lug. theres no rims out there for them except stock steel stuff. they are all dually configuration. they are expensive, they are not that common to find sitting around. too new. just to keep the rear pumpkin off the ground you'll need a min of 44" tires. 19.5 rims at a min to clear the brakes.

I'm not saying you can't or they're no good. but theyre far from bolt in and easy to work with. parts are going to be expensive too.

Not to mention when you throw a big tire on them, and most likely want a big lift your faced with a pinion angle problem unlike top loaders. Your definately better off spending your money 8lug and wheel braking rockwells.
