i found a guy that has a dana 60 front axle from a 93 dodge 1 ton srw....is it pretty similar to the chevy dana 60's? anything different? he says it has kingpins, im waiting on some pics to show u guys, thanks.

Very similar, spring pad spacing is 1/2" different, many guys have run them in GM's as they always seem cheaper. Wheel studs are smaller also, shock mounts a different too. Check out Colbystephens build thread in the driveway as he recently put one under his K5.
The above info is for a Dodge 60 up to 93' , after that they went balljoint, CAD, and coil springs.

I was thinking about going that route. I can't seem to find any K30's at the Junkyard.

Actually the guy has a d60/outta military truck for sale$1400. Disk brakes on the 14 bolt. I was trying to trade for some stuff I had. But he wants cash. Wish I had it!!! But he told me he had this dodge 60 also. Are all the parts interchangeable with the Chevys?? I will need to run 15" wheels on it so I'm hopin that it's just grinding the caliper like the Chevys.

to fit 15" rims on dana 60 its 2.5" b/s = no grinding . 3.25-3.50 b/s = some grinding and std 4.25-4.50 b/s = WAY to much grinding .

That about sums it up :D

Most of the parts interchange :D, rotors are obviously different because of smaller wheel studs (but GM rotors and hubs could be swapped), spindles are the same, calipers appeared to be the same, I believe stub shafts are the same, all the diff parts (r&p, carriers, lockers etc) are the same, spring mounting plates are different on the stud/ bolt side, locking hubs and hubs I'm not sure on. My brother is swapping a 60/70 from a 93 Cummins truck into his Wagoneer, while the axles were at my shop we were comparing side to side with on of my GM 60's :D

inner axle on 1 side shorter.

wheel studs 1/2" over 9/16"

rotor thinner .25" some guys have swaped on gm rotors.

if internal lockout style parts swap easy .

some guys squeaze the springs together and bolt them in place under chevy .

axle is tad narrower for less track width over gm.

so basicly if you can half way turn a wrench you got it covered.

That's good to know. I would rather just swap hubs out and keep studs same all the way around. I'm still trying to work out a deal with the other axles since they are exactly what I want with 4.56's and disks all the way around. Sucks when u finally find what your looking for and don't have the cash to get em!! Lol.

Make sure the dodge axle is actually a 60. Dodge also used a dana 61. The 61 is the same axle EXCEPT the carrier is different and only can be had with 3.07 or 3.54 gears. There are no other gears available for it. Check the lower web on the housing for a 60F or a 61F cast into to it know the difference

It's a good idea to watch for it but the D61 is an '89 axle only, pretty much guaranteed to be external hubs too. The Dana 61 came about because Dodge didn't have an overdrive trans to work with the freshly introduced Cummins and had to use it's 727 as the automatic option (with no overdrive of course). Since 3.54 is the highest ratio for a D60, they created the D61 to get 3.08's, that was a one year, automatic only option IIRC. If it's a '93 it's not a D61.

Now a days there are ways to get deeper gears in them too, definitely not limited to the stock 3.08 in a D61.

Im running a dodge d61 in the front of my truck right now, got 4.10 gears in it right now and plan on installing 5.13-5.38's in it with the help of a standard ring gear spacer. Ford had d61's in the rear of some trucks and vans that had 4.10's
from the factory, all ya need is this carrier(706400X) and a standard ring gear spacer to run 4.56 and up gears....

Just to clear things up, Dodge didn't have a 4-speed auto for the cummins until mid 91.
So the dana61 was used between 89-91.5 in those trucks, not just -89.

External hubs was an -89 only thing for the cummins trucks though.
(But was also used on gas-trucks earlier)
