Actualy its a dodge 270? or somthing like that any how. It has a 318, and one of those after market three guage clusters with. oil press, amps, and temp. So the deal is that there is this one wire that goes from the alt to the back of the amp guage. A few other wires also hook up to the same post on the guage. The wire from the alt to the guage has repeedly burnt up from the guage out about 6" Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this? And where the wire is actully supposed to go if not to the gauge?

On older Mopars,ALL the power for the car (minus start) goes through the ammeter. One wire going to the gauge, multiples going out, on aftermarket gauge. My guess is someone used too small a wire and it got overloaded, or the wire has a bare spot somewhere and shorted out. Pull the old wire and replace with new wire the same size or larger as the factory wire on the factory gauge. I love Mopars, but sometimes their engineering makes me shake my head in disbelief.

Crap i forgot i posted this. Well it looks llike the actual gauge it self burt up this time... You know the little plastec "isolaters" on the back of the gauge? well the one side is totaly melted... And i guess the meter was tripin out and goin from 30 amps back to 0 and so forth so i ont know what the hell is goin on... So now im going to tell her to take it to a specialist as i do the motor swap on her 88 2.3L ranger. fun times
