Does anyone make a half-roof car cover thing?

Back when I had my business a guy left his Jeep with me. It had the top off and had a car cover that went over the windshield and wrapped around the tailgate so it covered up the exposed part of the Jeep. If all goes as planned and this K5 becomes mine on Thursday, I was hoping to pull the top to have some open air time before the weather changes.

My Trans Am is in the garage and I don't have any space in there to put the K5 with it, so it would suck to have to put the top on and off every time I wanted to drive the thing. Soft-top is not in the budget right now, maybe when I graduate in May but the whole reason I'm selling my Burb is to get money for school so right now I'm just going to drive this thing and not spend any money more than I have to on it.

Anyone know if I can buy a half-cover like this?

Yeah, it's called a tarp and some bungee cords. You can find them at Walmart and Home Depot.

Truth. Besides, I don't think anyone makes the covers in question for the K5.

A buddy of mine would run this setup all summer long on his '72. Take the top off in June, tarp it until September, keep the 6 rubber bungees in the center console when not in use. I still do this on mine when I have the top off for extended periods, since I lack covered parking of any sort.

It's cheap, available and effective. A heavy duty tarp - like the thick silver ones - is pretty good at resisting wind tears and other wear. Sure, it's ghetto, but it works.

I was gonna post a link to the Harbor Freight tarp page and mention that they had a wide range of color choices, but thought it might be a wee bit snide :haha:

I dig the camo tarps, although they only have them to match my sixpack and do not, for some unfathomable reason :surepal: have them in blue camo to match the Smurfmobile. :dunno:

You guys are so bootleg. :haha:

Well, then. Maybe I should tell you that I used that tarp method for like a month before I stopped putting it on at all. Realized all I had to do to keep my front seats dry was slide them forward when it rained. Top comes off in April, goes back on Thanksgiving weekend.

My K5 is pretty much... interior delete. How's that for bootleg?

In all seriousness, unless you want to shell out the $800 or so for the Softopper, you're lookin at a tarp. I even bought one (a tarp) in brown to match my truck.

I'm all for some interior delete, but trying to keep it dry and quiet for my kiddies. :)

I'll probably just use a tarp. My wife is not complaining about me bringing yet another car home to the driveway, so I'm trying to keep her as happy as possible. :)

This is where all the rust holes in the floors come in handy, it helps with drainage!
