We are thinking about putting dual cat back exhaust on our 1995 Chevy 1500 5.7 and we have read in one of the ads that dual 3" as compared to dual 2.5" loses low end torque or towing horsepower.

Would having cat back duals without a muffler (y-tube) also lose torque and towing horsepower?

Does anyone have any opinions on this subject?

thank you

Removing exhaust restriction NEVER hurts power.

Single 3" is enough for 5.7L engines, dual 2.5" is unnecessary and flows almost equal. Dual cats would be federally illegal, and more expensive than single.

High flow cat ( single ) , and a decent muffler are all a tow rig really needs . A truck will never really see the RPM needed to make a super high flow exhaust worthwhile .

If you got a newer Chevy truck , they would eventually come with two cats and front duals from the factory ( then single mufffler and 3 inch tail ) , my 99 Sub is that way . ( ALSO HAS 4 O2 SENSORS )
