Does Hydro assist affect streetability?

any of you guys run the 1.75" PSC on the street? That's what I have sitting on the work bench.

Well not a street truck, but I have driven mine on the street. Only issue I've had is when doing a real quick maneuver (straight, then hard right, then hard left.....think full throttle powerslide, then off the gas into a slalom trying not to hit a pole:doah: ) I lost all power assist. I'm running a stock pump with no mods though. I'm told if I do the pressure and flow mods that it won't do that anymore. :dunno:

Edit....moral of the story is unless driving like an a$$ you probably wont have an issue.

haha, I'll keep that in mind if I decide to autocross this pig. It's not a street truck but I drive to the trails with it. Probably best if I go with the PSC pump with the reservoir fittings anyway.....

I have hydroboost along with assist and have never had a problem with braking or steering when doing both at the same time. I have modded my pump and have a huge cooler that acts as a reservoir though.

I run a 1.5" ram on mine and most of the time there is no difference on the street. The only issue, which is probably specific to having hydroboost, is that when you are using the brakes (engine basically at idle) to slow down for a turn and then turn the wheel it can feel pretty heavy. I'm sure that is because the brakes have first priority on the fluid pressure. This was noticed just in some situations and I've learned to compensate for it. I have never noticed any difference in the return to center of the steering.
I have the same setup and even sprung for the hi-flow mods on the hydroboost and still notice it when the brakes are applied.

The only issue I have ran into is the same as Chris. I have not done any mods to my pump, and with very quick maneuvers the steering doesn't seem to keep up. But so far I have not ran into that issue while on the road.

I have had no problems driving on the street with hydro assist and high steer.

I did have issues with the steering wheel return ability. I found it was my caster angle.
There were 5 degree shims installed on the spring perches to help with the driveline angle, after I removed them and set my toe in with a tape measure I was good to go.

I'm assuming if you buy the PSC full kit, the pump is modified, so the issues mentioned above should probably be minimized?

I had no issue with a modified stock pump keeping up, honestly noticed no change in power going to the PSC. i didn't have to build it though

I can't explain why, but I drove a buddy's K5 with all PSC parts, and it would feel as it would lose boost pressure when trying to do a quick 3 point turn. So I don't think you can knock modified stock pumps too much.
With that said, I agree with Bent72, as the setup that I have now seems great. (Thanks Mark! )

Hydro was a vast improvement for me on the street. I just run a modded pump and a farm ram. I have been thinking of replacing the ram because I don't think I get quite the assist I used to.

I have a West Texas set up on my one ton Suburban, and consider it one of the best mods I did to the truck. One finger wheel turning lock to lock with 40"s in Park, +1 for acting as a super steering stabilizer. I put an in line Wix filter and small PS fluid cooler for hot weather. I'm only running with Posi in front, a front Detroit to compliment the rear Detroit is planned.
Other notes. I had 2 occasions that the ram seals leaked, pulled it and they replaced the seals. Pain in the ass though. I bought it from Steve at ORD during that brief time the sold the West Texas stuff, so if I did it again I would buy a differnt brand. Just my opinion to help. Unless you put the quick dis-connect ends on the hyd line it's tedious taking it out. I keep the caps to cap the lines in my truck in case I blow a line or some other mishap, and drive it home without the ram.
Lastly, these Rams are powerful. You can peel a tire off a non bead locked wheel in the rocks.
