I was looking up a K&N air cleaner for my 1987 TBI k5 and it appears they dont make one for that year. They make one for the 1988 to 1991 k5. Did something change with the TBI from 87 to 88? Does anyone know if the 1988 air cleaner compatible with a 1987?

take your old filter in to compare with a 88?

I got one in my 87 K5. If I still had the box or the receipt I would give you the part number. I would think its the same as an 88-91.

Get the measurements that you need and go to the parts store and look up a part number by the dimensions.

I went on the K&N site and the dimension aren't listed. It just says it fits 88-91. F***-it if it doesnt fit i'll just pay the 20% restocking fee and return it. Hopefully it does.

Or go to your local parts store first and have them pull a 1989 paper filter. Compare that to what you already have - then order the K&N. I expect that there was no change from 87 to 88.

im with these guys.. i cant see that it would be that different.. good idea to go to auto store and compare an 88-91 with what you have already. maybe it'll be listed to include 87 and that alone would answer your question..

funny how we all come up with elaborate schemes for finding a suitable k&n makeshift fit when we could have double checked and found that they have an 87 filter. good show folks. good work thunder.

turns out my k5 is a 1986, first year sold was 1987. But it has a throttle body but it doesnt look like the ones ive seen on other blazers online.

86 is carb. 87 is TBI. Lotsa places make mistakes on what is what., and some carry it only by 88-91 (because of the first year of the pickups with tbi, and the rounder body).
