does my landlord have the right...

Maybe its an oregon thing. I live in a manufactured home park. I own the home but i rent the land. I'm not even allowed to change my oil.
As i am currently doing a 3/4 ton conversion in the driveway, i have already been fined twice. I haven't worked on anything in the driveway since, but sooner or later i need to put the 14 bolt under the rig. I did build a garage so i do 90% of my work where they cant see.
My 7' door and 8' truck dont work together. But i'm pretty sure I'm going to put the truck on rims only and finsh in the garage.

Last fine i got was for major auto repairs, I told them it was major auto improvements, but i still got the fine :haha:

H.O.A. suck, don't they?! I feel your pain (Oops! Political Freudian slip :D :haha: !)

A landlord can tell you that you cann't weld on his proporty.... You have the right to rent the home, but it is his and can limit what you do there. It doent have to be in the lease..... Hazard to his property is enought to have you evected..... Most courts will favor him in that regard.... you didn't have or ask if you could use a welder before you started renting his property... So get his permission... As far as the extension cord to weld.... you loose a lot of current for welding when you using one, but can be if you know how to weld first... As the home owner he can pull power to were ever he wants without a electrican but it does need a permit, so the JHA can verify that it's to code...

I don't weld in my own garage, and I'm a homeowner.:eek1:
Sparks go EVERYWHERE when I weld, [ stick welder] and with some many combustables in the garage, it's just SOOOO much safer to weld outside. When I do start a fire, it is no big deal to put out in the driveway. And since you say your a beginner welder, I can almost guarantee an accidental fire getting started.:eek1:
I do use a real heavy duty extension cord off my range or furnance outlet with no problems so far.
So I agree with your landload from a saftey aspect, but dont know about the legal issues. But if you already have a good relationship with him, why push it? :D

where i live it is not so much the owner it is the association. per the association rules no automotive work allowed. if you have a 2 car garage you are to park two cars. Garage is not to be used as storage. They cry about everything.
