Guy said he got it from a buddy, looks like someone was gonna convert to discs, then stopped for whatever reason. let me know your opinions. He knows nothing about it.

non factory disk brake 14ff rear.

factory has the rotors slide over the hubs not press on with the studs.

What do you mean by that? what i was wondering is if its a 14ff that someone was converting to discs. Sorry, im not too familiar with rearends, so school me, im young still learning and ready to listen.

edited my post before to clear up a tiny bit.

yes its a factory drum brake rear being converted to rear disk with a aftermarket kit.

the factory later 14ff with disk have slide off rotors and have a mini drum inside them for the ebrake shoes.

as in the pics the rotors are held on the back side of the hubs with the studs. and no place for ebrake to go.

No internal E brake correct? I guess i would need measurements off the bracket, but would this be something that looks like the 76-78 cadilac disc kits that still have a functioning E brake?

Similar to this:

the caddy calipers have no effect on the brackets. thay are the same specs but have ebrake guts as to the 1/2 or 3/4 ton front calipers.

but do not get the 80's calipers from caddys. thay are smaller like s-10 sized. thay wont work.

last question, you think its worth 100-150 if the housing is straight? Everything looks decent enough if its not to worn, and my dad can set up a rear (not that i need it at this point, but might be good to just have laying around)

well parts alone for 100-150 for disk swap with rotors. yes.

housing ? looks like it was a 1ton axle factory. then someone cut off the shock tabs and welded on new and also moved the spring perches outbord to fit the 1/2 - 3/4 ton trucks. my only thing with this is the welds look a bit funny.

so thats my take on it.

Well thanks for the information, looks like it would be perfect, but i need to buy a carb first and just get the thing running, and dont have any good shop space to store it inside, so ill probably pass on it, but id gladly link someone to the seller if they needed one. Looks like it would be perfect, as ive been wanting a 14ff or 14sf, but i dont think it would look good with a stock height k5, i also know where a 76 dana 44 with 4.10s is if somebuddy wanted a matched pair.

14ff with disk brakes yep.looks like they were in the process of rebuilding it.they have the bearing caps mixed up now so i would put in new bearings on the carrier before putting it back together.if the pinion bearings still look good, you can just put a new seal and bolt it back in.the disk brake kit is worth 100 bucks on its own.so 150 wouldnt be outa the question for that axle.i paid that uch with the stock drums on it and converted it.so i have about 500 into the rear end with the disk brakes and cadi calipers and brackets.

You should be able to find a drop in 14bff for the same $$$ and not have to worry about putting this crap all back together. With it being apart for (how long??) you'd probably have/need to replae all the bearings in the axle and hubs along woth new seals. Since you are an admitted axle noob, as I sort of am, I'd pass and look for a complete unit out of a running truck or something similar.

if you dont mind putting it together.. id say it is a good deal...

I paid $85 for my rear brake kit, $45 for rotors, $120 for caddy eldorado calipers and few other things.. think I was at $325 for just the disc swap parts....

My dads the one who can setup a rear, and i know he would do it in a heartbeat, as long as i told him it was for a buddy of mine :p:

Letting him know im gonna modify something thats working perfectly fine would probably make him ask why more times than its worth lol.

Ive also seen the shimless disc brake brackets, and those are supposed to be stronger than this style, so i think id be better off finding a known working rear end then putting back somebuddy elses half done project. As i said, ive got the cl link if someone wants it.

If your old man will put it back together for you, I'd say that is a great deal. You would have more money than that wrapped up in locating all those parts to swap to rear discs.

Yes, but unless he is dead set on having disk in the rear then I don't see the need/expense in having to replace all the bearings and seals. You may not have to do that on an axle pulled from a truck that is complete but would surely have to on this axle. At times I wish I would have left the drums on mine and not gone with the disks.
