My front tires on my K5 are wearing really fast. They have less then 3000miles on them and are 1/2 way worn.

I called Mickey Thompson and got their warranty department. Here is what I was told

1) those tires are for Heavy duty trucks, not a light truck like mine

2) When I told them I run 32psi, they said that is too much, even though sidewall says 35psi max, they said i shouldnt run more than 30psi

3) my rim width is too narrow, Im running 8" steel OEM rim, they said that min. width should be 8.5" for my size tire

Im running 33 x 12.5 x 15 on 8 x 15 steelies.

I dont drive my truck much and when I do, I baby it and rarely off road it any more, if I do, its down to the beach in the soft sand.

ANyways. after this set complete wears out, im going back to BFG ATs or Coopers.

thats brutal man, 3000k? ive been running a 315/75/16 mtz on my dodge tow/work truck its been about 2.5 years and a ton of road miles (dont know the exact ammount but id guess 15 to 20 000 kms and mine are just getting down to 50%

That's a crock of #$%$.......

A 33x12.50R15 definitely does not belong on my definition of a "heavy duty" truck. I would consider "heavy duty" to mean at least a 2500 or 3500 series truck that come from the factory with E rated tires not the light C rated tires these are.

And come on now, there is not enough difference between an 8" and 8.5" wide rim to cause any difference. You are only talking 1/4" per side.

Now if only your front tires are wearing bad and the rears are fine I will say it's probably nothing wrong with the tires. Most 4wd trucks with either a bad alignment or worn parts will eat the front tires up pretty quick.

I started to really get better tire wear on my 33 12.5 15 when I went to a wider wheel. I actually went to 10" and saved about 20% more tread per tire swap. (When you put 400,000 miles on one truck, you really get to see changes like that.)
Maybe I am just stupid, but how would a tire designed to handle trucks at the very base minimum GVW of 8500 pounds wear out way too fast on something half the designated and designed minimum weight? I thought physics applied to Mickey Thompson as well. ??:(
