Does this winch mount look strong enough?

LOL seriously, I'm sure you're waiting for the punchline picture but there ain't one. :haha:

Got some bumpers from a member. They turned out great. But, because I've never really seen a winch bumper with working winch up close, I'm not too sure this bumper is strong enough to hold a winch. It is 3/16 steel across the front. The rest of the bumper I'm not worried about.

yep, now you just need to buy that 8274 to go on there!

It looks like it's two plates sandwiched together at the front...
Are they 3/16 each?
My other concern is what we don't see in the pic.
Snap some better shots of the lower part and the transition between the frame and the bumper.

Ohhhh, I see that :doah:No, what you see is my license plate frame up front. It is a total of 3 pieces. The flat one for the winch, and two coming off the sides to meet it, all 3/16. The bumper to frame is secure :waytogo: and soon to be over-secure :D I'll get some better pictures later today.

It looks fine, but as was said would like to see some different pics. How it attaches at the frame.

Yes. Plenty strong.... Those breaks so close to the mount will add a lot of strength.

Those are welds, so not as strong as breaks. but if it isnt alright now, a piece of flat stock across the top and fully welded would stiffen it more.

Looks like the stinger it tied above the winch plate with tube so it's good to go.

It looks well-made to me. But I am just a "fabricator ordinaire"

Plenty strong enough looking to me. My motto, if in doubt, throw more steel at it :D.

cool

only thing that needs to be fixed is the fairlead mounting. The bottom tube is in the way, so I'm going to weld on a couple of spacers for that lower mount, to space the fairlead away from the tube.

I will say since you have never used it, when you do, make sure you or anyone else stands clear incase something happens just in case. As should be done regardless, but in this case it's for test purposes for the first use, extra safety precautions needs to be taken :D.

This is why I always over build winch mounts. The mount on my old chevy was a 1/4in mile market winch plate mounted to the frame with 3/8 plate standing on edge with three 5/8ths bolts in each rail. Then it was capped in front with a 5in piece of c channel and had two 1/4in thick 2in flat stock "stringers" going across the winch plate on the bottom where the feet bolted up.

I have a question about the thick piece of steel on the inside of the frame rail (for the clevis). Aren't there 4 rivots on that rad support body mount? IT looks like the thick plate would be on top of them (ie; not flush to the frame rail).

those clevis pieces are actually from my last bumper, torched out and put on separately. Anywho, they are notched in back so they sit flat against the frame. I plan on welding a 2x2 square tube between each of them, close to the D-rings, just to defend against any side to side stress.
