Doin' the headlight relay thing...

where can ya get just two of the relays and what amperage rating do they need to be

does auto zone or napa or o reilly auto parts have any that would work ?

this would be real simple to do with just a coupel relays and a roll of 12 gage wire

cake walk

and also add larger ground to them

i would jut use stock halogen bulbs and this upgrade and wow, would be crazy bright

no need to spend 100 bones on some wierd bulbs

thanks

Any Bosch or equivalent relay would work fine. Radio Shack carries them:

I know AZ carries them and NAPA should. I donno 'bout Oreilly's cuz out here, that's a computer book company and not an auto parts store :haha:

Anyway, just look in with the ricer lighting and foglights. For these purposes a relay is a relay is a relay, anything 20-30A will do just fine.

ok thats cool thnaks

commifornia doesnt have o reilly auto parts ?

that is one odd state

should be its own country.

i tell ya

thanks

waterproofing wiring

I just ordered the LMC HD harness (along w/ a new RH vent glass seal). This will be the first of many, many improvements to the truck (See http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=223179). One of concerns after reading this thread is seemingly horrible weatherproofing of our wiring. How concerned should I be about the countless standard connectors from the factory and two decades of the truck's after-market life?

VOLTAGE drop test

Ta learn som of ya fellers a lil bout electrical.
testing your light ouput with solar pannels and light meters to see if youve increased light ouput is WAY to much work.
the BEST way to test your electrical problems is Voltage drop testing.
Voltage drop testing will ACCURATLY tell you your curcuits condition.

Heres another good read http://www.aa1car.com/library/voltage_drop_testing.htm

Im only a PM away :D ASE cert Master tech and GM cert

Alright guys I am looking into doing the H4 upgrade or whatever it is but I can't get the links to work. I understand the relay part but can someone explain the lamp conversion? And where do I order the parts from for the lamp conversion? I can piece the relay kit together myself. Thanks!

EDIT: Nevermind I found this thread and it explains what I wanted to know.

Oh that relay! I thought he was talking about the one for the flux capacitor. I don't have a relay for mine so I was confused!

relay

Sorry I am a little confused I installed h4 lamps with bulbs in it. After couple months all four headlights are on now I have replace Headlight switch and turn signal switch what else is there that could be wrong?

Sure sounds like the switch is stuck on.

The factory didn't include a relay; this thread is about adding one, so the only way your setup would have a relay is if you put it there ;)

thanks

I have the wiper switch coming in today so I will try that. Has anyone done a hid kit in there blazer?

One thing to remember guys, on 71 - 87? trucks almost all the power from the battery went from the battery to the headlight switch and then on to the ignition etc. The headlights probably draw 10 - 20 Amps, if you replace that draw with relays that draw 0.1 amps you have significantly reduced the load on the headlight switch and connections. I had to replace my headlight switch every three years. When I rewired the lights with relays and circuit breakers the headlight switch has lasted seven years so far.

+1 for LMC relay harness

Not the best harness, but it serves. Much better light output.
