Doing the rear main seal. Any tips???????

I know the rear cap is droped. put oil on the seal. put cap back on and thats about it. The shop near me wants 300 to do it. It doesn't seam to hard to do. thanks mike

I wouldn't pay the $300 either although it's not that easy.
The pan is a b***CH to take out, you need to raise the engine and then... well there has been some threads on how to do it, I am sure you 've seen them, it takes me about a day to finish the whole job.

GREAT!!!! This sounds like a pain in the ass. Why do you need to raise the motor. Wish me luck........mike
 
How did you do that? ten people told me it needs to be raised Mike
 
Well I have heard many people do it without raising the motor and some had to.
On 2wd trucks it is necessary, on 4wd's I guess it depends on the years, the pan will not come off because it's deep and the oil pick up is in deep and the cross member is in the way.
All I did was unbolt the middle bolt of the motor mount and raised the engine from the front about 2".
I didn't use the best point but I put my jack on the pulley on the main cranck.
It's not as hard as it seemed in my first post, but it does take a few more steps than what you listed.
