Has any body had this issue occur--I have a 78 Jimmy that I recently purchased. I put in a new steering column but it was for a different year--I think a 76, but the guy said everything would plug right in--and it did. I replaced the headlight switch with an autozone model, now when I turn on the headlights my dome light comes on and my rear driving lights are not working either, but my brake lights work fine. I know it is probably something simple, I just can't seem to figure it out. :dunno:

Sounds like a problem with the new headlight switch. The dome light system is ground switched, meaning it has power at all times and the switches all supply the ground. The headlight switch does the ground as well. None of the park lights or the dome light system is affected by the column unless you pinched the white and orange wires when you installed it, but then it would be on all the time.

That would imply that the white ground wire for the dome light circuit is connected to the columns horn button wire. Horns work on the same ground switch principle, so when you press the button it provides ground to the dome light circuit. You should be able to find the wire towards the bottom of the column and find where it is tied into the dome light ground wire. Remove this and then either run a new wire or find the original wire that runs to the horn relay and provides the ground.
